Since 2013, the F.C.A. has given away over $14,000 to support chess in our state.
We've supported chess excellence by providing stipends to top individual and team finishers of regional and state championships to ensure they can compete at the next level of competition. We have provided stipends to support Florida representatives to attend each of the National Tournament of Champions (NTOC) events for the National Girls, Denker (9th-12th), Barber (K-9th) and Seniors (50+).
We also have reimbursed schools for the purchase of chess sets and boards around the state. We have supported the Miami Pro Chess League team and helped college students from various schools attend the national collegiate championship tournament, the Pan-American Games. Last year we supported an all Women/Girl's tournament in Jacksonville, the Queen's Cup through our general fund.
Of special significance in the month of March is the collection of donations to support the fledgling chess program at the Florida School for the Deaf and Blind (FSDB) in St. Augustine. They had 4 elementary grade players recently attend their first rated tournaments and monies received will be earmarked for them to purchase standard Braille boards and chess sets.
Our income comes from two sources: Memberships and surplus from any tournament revenue. We'd love to do more to support chess in our state and you can help.
